VTU to start its own Advanced Graduate School VIAT

VTU has not had its own constituent institute for the past 17 years.

In this August, the Belgaum – headquartered university with nearly 180 affiliated engineering colleges, will start Visvesvarya Institute of Advance Technologies (VIAT), an exclusive graduate school offering best research based programmes to students.

VIAT will set up its campus on a 200 acre land at Muddenahalli , birthplace of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya with an estimated cost of Rs. 180 crore.

Initially the VIAT will offer post-graduate M.Tceh programmes in at least five areas at its four campuses in Bengaluru, Mysore, Gulbrug, and Belgaum.

VTU vice-chancellor H Maheshappa said, “VIAT will be designed on the lines of Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science. Some of the programmes we have drawn up are exclusive to the institute; no engineering college in the state is currently offering them.”

All the four maiden campuses of the proposed institute will have a dedicated centre specializing in a chosen area.

The Bangalore campus will have C3 Technologies- Centre for Control, Communication and Computation.

Mysore campus will host Centre for Material and Manufacturing Technologies and

Gulburg campus will housed Centre for Energy and Environment Technologies.

At Belgaum, the Centre for Resources and Geosystems Technology will be set up

The admission to M.Tech and M.Sc. (Engg.) by Research will be done through Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores followed by an interview. 18 candidates per programme will be allowed to take admission in M.Tech.
