VTU inviting PhD holders to become Reseach Guide

If you are a PhD holder and have three to four years of experience, you could be eligible to guide those planning to pursue research at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).

VTU vice-chancellor H Maheshappa on Sunday admitted that there is a shortage of 25,000 doctorates in the university and there aren't many professors to guide students who want to pursue research. "Hence, we are planning to invite those who have completed their doctorate and are working in other fields to guide teachers and students," he said.

"There are many PhD holders working in HAL, BHEL and even private companies. We want to liberalize the existing system and provide them with an opportunity to guide researchers. A committee will be formed to select eligible guides. The selected individuals will be listed in our website along with details of their specialization," he said. An advertisement will be published this month.

Students' welfare

To resolve problems faced by students, a students adalat will be held every Saturday.

Besides, VTU is planning to organize a job fair at Gulbarga in the first week of February and at Belgaum in March to provide campus placements for rural students. Similar fairs will be planned for rural students in Mysore and Bangalore.

Digital evaluation

The varsity plans to introduce a digital evaluation system, wherein answer scripts will be scanned and put on the system for fast and error-free evaluation.
